Fixed price vs online 'from' price
National online sellers advertise attractive headline figures. Here's how to compare like-for-like before you part with a deposit.
| Us | Typical online seller | |
|---|---|---|
| Headline price you see | The price you pay — fixed in writing | Often a 'from' price that grows after survey |
| Survey | Free 15-minute visit by an F-Gas engineer | Video call or postcode-based estimate |
| Pipework beyond 5m | Priced up-front at £45/m on your quote | Added on the day as an extra |
| Electrical circuit | Included in every package | Frequently excluded, billed separately |
| Warranty | 5 years parts & labour, manufacturer-backed | Often 12 months labour only |
| Who installs it | Our own REFCOM-registered engineers | Subcontracted marketplace installers |
The only things that can move the price
- Pipe runs over 5 metres — £45 per additional metre, agreed on your written quote, never on the day.
- Difficult access — tower or scaffold for high front elevations, £300–£800, flagged at survey.
- Condensate pump — £90–£160 where the indoor unit can't drain by gravity.
- Consumer unit upgrades — only if your board lacks capacity or RCD protection; quoted separately by a qualified electrician.
Pricing questions, answered
- Are these prices really fixed?
- Yes. For a standard installation the package price is the price. After your free survey you get a written itemised quote — if we find anything non-standard it's listed there with its own price before you commit.
- Is VAT included?
- Yes, all figures include VAT. The price on your written quote is the price you pay — no provisional sums and no day-rate creep.
- Do you take a deposit?
- A 20% deposit secures your install date, with the balance due only after commissioning and your walkthrough. We never ask for more than 25% up front.
- Is finance available?
- Yes — 0% over 12 months or 9.9% APR over 3–5 years through our regulated finance partner, subject to status. Ask when you book your survey.
- What brands do you install at these prices?
- LG and Samsung as standard, with Daikin, Mitsubishi Electric and Panasonic available as upgrades — typically £150–£400 depending on the range. See our recommended units in the cost guide.
